Home made dog food

I thought I had posted this before but I couldn't find it so here it is. I was watching a You-Tube video where a woman was using a pressure cooker to cook a full chicken bones and all to feed the dog. Now we all know that cooked bones are a big no no for dogs due to sharpness and splintering. She said to cook for several hours. Several hours? What the heck is several hours? Turns out several hours means two hours.

You fill the pressure cooker with water to the fill line and pop in the whole chicken. You don't want to overfill the pressure cooker. Get that little doo dad rockin and then cook for two hours. Remove from heat and let cool for it to release the lid.

The chicken is perfect. The bones are completely soft. Even YOU can eat them. No worry about the bones hurting your dog. You can crush the bones using your fingertips. The good news is your dog gets the calcium and nutrients from the bones and marrow. Yet none of the negative.

Some people wonder why you would go to the trouble of cooking when you can just give it to them raw. In my case it is because some dogs won't chew the bones. My dog in particular will swallow them whole. She then will vomit it back up. Not a good thing.

How much to cook? It is suppose to be 40 % protein, 40% vegetable, 20% grain.

I cook two whole chickens, two bags of frozen vegetables (carrots or peas & carrots) and two loaves of bread.

Cook the chicken In pressure cooker two hours. Cook the frozen vegetable. Cube the two loaves of bread.

I purée the cooked vegetables.
I break up and crush the cooled cooked chicken and then mix everything together.
I feed up to two cups per serving twice a day.

Good in the fridge up to three days. Freeze the rest. This recipe is enough for one week and for one 40 Lb dog.

You could serve less but I am trying to put weight on this particular dog.
