Let Me In

I have to say I really enjoyed the original film "Let Me In". Sound track was off as it was low budget. Now it's been remade. Today was the first time I saw the trailer and its already being released on October first.

The story is of a young girl vampire who is befriended by the boy next door. It isn't scarey. It is about the innocence of the relationship and friendship they develop. He comes to her aid and she comes to his. It is about how she survives. Do you feel sorry for her victims or are you cheering her on? I must say that I don't recall how old this little vampire is. That could certainly give the film a whole different perspective.

The Rising by Brian Keene Book Review

I have just finished reading "The Rising" by Brian Keene. I will be the first in line to see the movie if they make one. It could be a terrifying movie.

With that said, normally the book is so much better and gives so much more detail than a movie ever could. This would not be the case no matter how much they changed the story. I'm sorry to say but Mr. Keene did not think his details through. His description of Jim's shelter is inconsistent. He describes it as being 10 x 15 and comfortable for four people. Sure except it is filled with three pallets of bottled water, a 55 gallon drum, music and books. Let's not forget the canned goods or the fridge. Nor the guns and ammo. What exactly are people sleeping on? Is there fresh clothing available? Pretty much with everything in this room, I'd say these 4 people would be far from comfortable. Then again, when you take into consideration their future, maybe they would indeed consider it comfortable.

If you can get past the inconsistencies of moving about with the injuries they endure as if they are nothing more than a twitch of annoyance, you can get through the rest of it.

It's a short read. I read it in three days. It left me feeling disturbed and sadden. Not so much for the characters but humanity instead. I simply could not care about the main character Jim. The journey is all about his traveling across the states to get to his son. He supposedly cared so much for his son, his soul reason for living and all that, but his previous actions showed just the opposite.

Warning: I thought Stephen King was bad at killing off main characters, but Brian Keene gets that award for this book. If you like blood letting, you will enjoy The Rising.
