Daily Writing Prompt

The rules are simple. Write everyday. I'll help you get started with a simple writing prompt. Set your timer for ten minutes. Begin to write and somewhere in your mini story include the sentence(s) below. The word he or she can be changed to reflect whatever gender you want to use. Have fun.

Today's prompt is:
Choose your poison.

  1. OK, the ending to this amused me, so I'm posting it:

Bob dropped the medication on the checkout counter--Nyquil, Dayquil, Sudafed and a few more. Anything to stop this head cold. His eyes drooped, barely able to open. His nose was swollen as if stung by a bee, and just as red. His head--well, every BEEP from the cash register made him want to die a little bit more.
"Hi! Did you find everything you need?"
Bob nodded. He wished this middle-aged checkout girl--Rosa--wouldn't yell.
    She scanned the first item.
    "ID please?"
Bob rolled his eyes and reached for his wallet. He worked to free his driver's license from the over-stuffed leather. Rosa swiped it.
"Thank you." She handed it back.
After scanning two more items, the machine went off like an amplified car alarm. The screen lit up with a legal disclaimer: "Due to the Act of Such and Such..."
"I'm sorry, you can only buy two of these items at a time."
"Only two?" Bob let out the most pathetic, childlike groan.
Rosa smirked. "Yeah. Pick your poison."
Bob hated her. He hated the world.
    Screw it.
"I'll be right back," Bob said with a forced smile. "Can you hold these for me?"
He grabbed a shopping cart and hurried to the back of the store, wheels squeaking all the way. When he returned, the cart was filled with Tequila, Vodka, Gin, Whiskey and an 18-pack of Bud.
"Just this and the Nyquil, please." He smiled and handed her his ID.
Rosa shook her head and muttered something under her breath as she rang him up.

    Thanks for the prompt!
