Daily Writing Prompt

The rules are simple. Set your timer for ten minutes. Begin to write and include the prompt somewhere in your mini story. The word he or she can be changed to reflect whatever gender you want to use. Optional: Share your writing prompt in the comment section. Write everyday.
Today's prompt is:

The neighbor is singing in the shower again.

Elcie Lee can't go back to sleep, can't go back to who she was and what she did not know before that night in the old village hotel. Perhaps she called these manifestations through The Thin in a moment of desperation. Or maybe they have been waiting for her to come along. All she knows is that she is in a race to find out who or what they are -- indeed who or what she herself may be. Pursued by sinister beings, both human and otherwise, if Elcie does not uncover the secrets of her own past in time, she will be the next to disappear.

  1. Stacy stumbled down the hallway. Her eyes half closed and the cowlick of her short pixie cut was standing at a high surf wave. The oversized t-shirt hung past one shoulder and the bottom of her back cheeks played peekaboo with each step.
Her husband Mike looked up at her as she plopped into the kitchen chair.
“Good morning, Sunshine. I thought you were going to sleep in after your long night at work.”
She squinted her eyes and attempted a half-hearted glare. “The neighbor is singing in the shower again.” She tilted her head back. “I’m sure a jury would understand why I blew his house up and let me go free.”
Mike nodded an agreement. “Perhaps, but we’re kind of close and if you blow up his bathroom, you’ll most like blow up ours too.”
She let out a deep sigh. “That would definetly piss off our the landlord.”
“We’d probably get evicted for sure.”
Stacy looked around the kitchen. “That would mean packing.”
Mike lifted his mug as in a toast. “And we know how you feel about packing.”
She tilted her head. “I don’t have to pack if I go to prison.”
“No, but I would and I would make sure you helped me while you were out on bail.”
    "You are so mean."
